There are a number of excellent institutions and departments in the world that specialize in the diagnosis and management of cancer. Some of these departments have developed particular expertise in specific neoplasms, such as breast cancer, cutaneous melanoma, lung cancer, bowel cancer, brain tumors, and others. Eye tumors are considered to be rare. The Ocular Oncology Service of Wills Eye Hospital, Thomas Jefferson University, is one of the few departments in the world that deal exclusively with eye tumors. Through careful clinical and basic research and by providing the latest treatments available, they continue to assume a leading role in the field of Ocular Oncology.

Because of the rarity of eye tumors, patients generally travel long distances to seek expert opinion and treatment, especially ones that can potentially have a serious effect on their life. Each week the Ocular Oncology Service examines patients that travel from all regions of the United States and foreign countries. Over the past quarter century, 18,000 patients with ocular tumors and simulating conditions have been treated on the Ocular Oncology Service. The professional and compassionate approach used by the physicians and staff provide comfort and satisfaction for their patients. The members of the Ocular Oncology Service are committed to win the struggle for life and sight by providing the best possible care for patients with eye tumors.
